Improving women's access to birth control is one of the best ways to help prevent unplanned pregnancies and reduce the need for abortions. 

As part of the health care overhaul, the Department of Health and Human Services had the opportunity to require health care plans to offer birth control at no cost. 

With the help of a Facebook App developed by Fission Strategy, NARAL Pro-Choice America helped to make this a reality.

Nearly 27,700 people used the app to calculate their savings from no-cost birth control-- of those, nearly 6,000 submitted comments to HHS. As a result of this advocacy effort, health care plans beginning on or after August 1, 2012 will now have benefits for no-cost birth control.
