Posted by Abigail Simmons on February 27, 2015

During the Tech Superwoman Conference last month, our CEO Cheryl Contee sat down to interview Del Harvey, the VP of Trust and Safety at Twitter. Cheryl, fresh from vacation in Brazil, samba'd onto the stage, while Del did not. The conversation started with their roles and whether they should samba or not onto the stage and then delved into Del’s use of the Vanilla Ice quote on her LinkedIn Profile to impress recruiters. After that, they quickly moved on to Del’s career path to Twitter and the early days at the company. She shared her experiences during the rapid growth of Twitter into a platform that now hosts over 500 million tweets a day. Her stories covered the challenges of scaling into the company Twitter is today, to the tracking of tweets and trending hashtags, to monitoring spam and the line between free speech and abuse, as well as diversity at Twitter. Del explained that her everyday role is to “Catastrophize”, by thinking of ways that things can wrong and providing solutions. There are times that things can get overwhelming, especially because her career path to Twitter was unusual and her job is unprecedented, but Del says that she is living her dream because the foundation of what she does it to help people everyday.

Watch a recap of their conversation above and in case you missed it, Tech Superwoman has posted this video of the whole conference.
