Happy Voter Registration Day! Now Click This Button.

Virginia's gubernatorial race is shaping up to be one of the most expensive in state history. It's also shaping up to have one of the worst turnouts in state history. Improving the voter registration process and increasing turnout can be hard, but Fission has built an app that makes registering in some states a 100% online process. Gone are the slow, outdated processes of filling out, signing, and mailing forms! At least in some states...
Various apps exist that allow a person to enter their info online and have an already filled out form mailed to their house. From there, the form must be signed and mailed to the voter’s voter registration office.
Seems easy right? That should improve voter registration, and eventually turnout, right?
Well, maybe not. Check out this tidbit from TechCrunch last year:
“Experimental research into the impact of such online registration systems finds that they actually decrease registration. Apparently, the ease of the online process lulls citizens into complacency and they forget to follow through with the rest of the process.”
The solution is simple: states need to enact a 100% online voter registration process. None of this fill out, sign, and mail it in stuff.
Full online registration is currently available or soon to be available in 19 states, and the app we built with Our Time works with all 19!
The only surefire way for our voice to be ignored is if we willfully sit on our hands throughout Election Day. With innovations like the online voter registration app available at OurTime, taking the first step to making your voice heard has never been easier.
But don’t take my word for it. Just listen to Sarah Silverman:
Online registration is currently or soon to be available in: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Nevada, New York, Oregon, South Carolina, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia. Bills for online registration have been introduced in eight other states: Florida, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas!
